Halfway between Florence and Siena along the antique consular road “Cassia” there is the Montalpruno Estate, only a few minutes drive from Monteriggioni and San Gimignano. This Chianti estate consisting of 43 ha for the cultivation of grapes and olives, is situated on a beautiful hill overlooking the ancient walls of Staggia Senese.

This small town in 1994 celebrated its tenth centennial, although historians maintain it is at least one hundred years older. In its Castle lived a famous Longobardfamily. One of their descendent, had founded on the site a Church in honour of St. Mary.

Now close to the church you can find a tiny but important museum, hosting a highly valuable work by Antonio del Pollaiolo, some 14th and 15th century paintings, and a beautiful painting by Salimbeni.

In Staggia you can find basics, from food to a post office, some café and good restaurants.

The working farm produces Chianti wine, Olive oil, Vinsanto and Grappa as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which in the spring are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms.

The original 19th century farmhouse in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments each with its own entrance.
