Montalpruno

The nature, a place to be visited, our house

Halfway between Florence and Siena along the antique consular road “Cassia”
there is the Montalpruno Estate,
only a few minutes drive from Monteriggioni and San Gimignano.

This Chianti estate consisting of 43 ha for the cultivation of grapes and olives,
is situated on a beautiful hill overlooking the ancient walls of Staggia Senese.

This small town in 1994 celebrated its tenth centennial,
although historians maintain it is at least one hundred years older.

In its Castle lived a famous Longobardfamily.
One of their descendent, had founded on the site a Church in honour of St. Mary.

The absorbed ideal place in the Tuscan Culture

This small town in 1994 celebrated its tenth centennial, although historians maintain it is at least one hundred years older. In its Castle lived a famous Longobardfamily. One of their descendent, had founded on the site a Church in honour of St. Mary.

Now close to the church you can find a tiny but important museum, hosting a highly valuable work by Antonio del Pollaiolo, some 14th and 15th century paintings, and a beautiful painting by Salimbeni.

In Staggia you can find basics, from food to a post office, some café and good restaurants.

The working farm produces Chianti wine, Olive oil, Vinsanto and Grappa as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which in the spring are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms.

"Le Vigne"

Our Wines of Quality

Vineyards, olive groves and orchards surrounded the extensive outside areas.
The wine harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are immediately transported to the nearby cellar
situated in the middle of the estate. Here we aim to obtaining the best quality of our wine using
the latest available modern technology. In fact the small quantity produced permits a careful following up of the whole process.

The “cantina” is run by the family and next to the house there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use.

On this land, situated at an altitude of around 250 m above sea level, and with its characteristic soil consisting of travertine, organic limestone and sand mixed with tuff and clay, there are vineyards focused on the production of the esteemed Chianti and Extra-Virgin Olive Oil.

The prevailing grape varieties are the traditional ones of the area such as Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Ciliegiolo and other minor typical Tuscan grapes. Only to a limited extent, and for the production of special wines, international grapes like Merlot and Cabernet have been added.
The olive groves, as well, are the typical for this area and consist of about 1000 trees.
